This design development consists of collaging because of the basis of this project. As this project is based upon creating a garment with the materials provided, collaging was effective to see where and how I could use those materials. I understood that if I were to design freehand, I would almost forget about the restrictions of the fabrics I can use. This explains why I would only draw freehand when I wanted it to become more clear of what the garment types would be in the designs.

The concept boards have also inspired multiple aspects of these designs. This includes the circular ink splatters derived from the planets in the boards, the striped patterns which were reflected as warped effects, the sampling in these designs and silhouette shapes were also obtained from the boards which lead to the success of these designs. The designs that showcase contrasting colours on either side of a symmetrical garment reflect the idea of parallel worlds.

Selected Designs for Refinement

The board above shows my favourite designs that I believe best suits my consumer market's style. After selecting the ones that will possibly be in the final lineup, I refined them so that they would look less conceptual and added construction details suitable for each design.

Lineup Development

The lineups below show the first stages of my line up development where I put together the designs I believe would work well in a lineup. The development process has shown me which designs I needed to refine further and produce an effective final lineup and colourways.

Colour Palettes

This board above shows the colour schemes for the final lineup (first row), the final lineup colourway 1 (second row) and the final lineup colourway 2 (row 3). The colours in the last columns are derived from the colours of the garments and fabrics I had chosen to deconstruct for this SuperDry project.

Final Lineup

‘Girl-Woman-Other’ is the title of this collection above as it reflects the character of the audience this collection is aimed for. It showcases their creative, joyous personalities and their vibrant energy which is shown within this colour scheme, the clothing, the aesthetic of the outfit breakdown pages and in the final line-up colourways. The vibrant energy stems from the concept where I aim to showcase the effects of the butterfly effect. The symmetrical garments with opposing colours on either side highlight the idea of parallel worlds. Within this collection, I aim to inspire people to explore the use of colour and silhouettes within their work and clothing. My stand work has greatly helped the design process as it has guided me to produce these creative silhouettes and patterns, which has lead this collection to fall under the SuperDry brand profile 'Energy'. As well as wanting to inspire people, I also aim to showcase inclusivity of the black community by using black models throughout my work to hope to successfully highlight their beauty.

Outfit Breakdowns

The aesthetic of these pages above highlights the energy of my consumer through the use of closeup models, mark making and other imagery placed into the background. These pages also encourage the viewer to see the beauty in the clothing items by giving them a page each and showing different angles of the outfits.
